On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Human Relations Initiative, Inc, we genuinely thank you for your interest in the organization.

In 1993, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend the National Conference of Christians and Jews San Antonio (NCCJ SA) Youth Leadership Camp as a delegate. In subsequent High School and College years, I volunteered as a Camp Counselor and Advisor. At Camp, the programming developed provided me with the awareness, education, and tools to navigate dynamics related to social justice. To date, that knowledge continues to be incorporated in my evolutionary path.

In 2006, the National Conference of Christians and Jews San Antonio (NCCJ SA) became the United Communities of San Antonio, Inc. (UCSA) in 2006.

In 2020, the United Communities of San Antonio, Inc. (UCSA) became the Human Relations Initiative, Inc.

Human Relations Initiative, Inc. is a non-partisan organization which advocates for cultural social transformation by advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through awareness, education, and dialogue (mission statement).

A friend shared with me that the mission was one of the most important and loftiest statements they had ever seen. I concur with that assessment. While the mission could be dismissed as unattainable, we all must believe in our hearts and minds that it can be accomplished.

How do you make the mission an objective with a strategic plan, for the goal to be successfully achieved? I believe it starts with each of us being living examples of that mission.

Thank you for both making and taking the time to learn more about the organization. Together, we can be collaborative champions of diversity, equity, and inclusion for all people.

Sincerely,

Herbert C. Nance, Jr.
